Microsoft is going to offer a great discount for students who want to buy Windows 7. The Windows 7 Student edition is going to cost around $30 in Australia, according to itnews.com.au! (Other pricing details: $30 for the US, 30 pounds in the UK)

In the US students can also get a copy of Windows for around $30. In order to buy the Windows 7 student edition, you will have to go to a registered college/university and you also need a valid student e-Mail address (most likely .edu?).

Although there are no concrete details about the pricing for the student edition you can expect it to be around $30 in the US, 30 pounds in the UK. The price depends on your region and local market conditions.

Windows 7 Student Pricing

Prices may still change, but will be updated once they are confirmed:

UK: 30 pounds

US: 30 US-Dollar

AU: 30-AU Dollar

EU: 30€ ?

Windows 7 Student Edition Requirements:

valid student mail

registered college

running registered copy of Windows XP or Vista

Windows 7 Student Edition Release

The student discount will be available starting October 1st. If you preorder a copy at a retailer who is giving students a discount (make sure to verify that before you pre-order) you will be able to receive the discount after providing the necessary details as seen above.

The student price for Windows 7 will be similiar to the price for the “Snow Leopard MAC OS X” upgrade.

Although the chances are very low, you migh want to check out https://www.dreamspark.com/ from time to time. It is a Microsoft operated site that is dedicated to giving students software for free, including training. Maybe they will put Windows 7 on that site for some time.

Unconfirmed: The discount for the Windows 7 student edition is probably going to be available for Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Professional and $30 for a professional edition is a really fair price.

Considering that they can make a lot more money by selling online, they also plan to reduce the price of Windows 7 by 10-20%!
